The Plan tab is a working Gantt chart for field service jobs, not a picture of one. Drag a bar to move a task, drag its edge to change duration, drag between bars to create finish-to-start, start-to-start and other dependency links. The critical path, float and overdue tasks are calculated server-side against your working calendar, so two people looking at the same project see the same answer.
Group tasks into phases with automatic rollups. Mark key dates as milestones. Take a baseline before work starts and the original plan stays visible under the live bars, so slippage is obvious rather than arguable.
Zoom between day, week, month and quarter views. Undo and redo work as you would expect. There is a working-days-only option per task, and weekends show shaded on the day view.
A task can be linked to a real job. Booked visits from the planner board render inside that task's bar, one colour per engineer. Drag the bar to a new week and Field Ascend offers to shift the booked visits by the same number of days, or leave the diary alone. Visits that fall outside the planned window get flagged.
One honest limit: the Gantt lives in the office portal. Engineers see their jobs and visits in the app, not the programme itself.
Progress chasing is the hidden cost of most project tools. Field Ascend watches the records a task is linked to and updates the plan on its own.
Kit ordered, kit delivered, hire booked, hire off-hired: the action-list items your coordinators track on paper become checklist rows on the plan, visible next to the site work they unblock. Anything not linked to a record is still one click to tick manually.
Save a standard programme once, in Project Settings, and apply it to new projects dated from the project start. A five-phase AC install with 20 tasks takes seconds to set up instead of an afternoon.
Projects fail on money more often than on programme. The Money tab keeps the commercial side attached to the work.
Set up stages: deposit on order, second stage at first fix, balance at practical completion. Each stage raises a normal invoice through invoicing when it falls due, and the tracker shows what has been billed against the contract value.
Extra works are quoted, sent and accepted like any other quote, flagged as a variation on the project. Approved variations roll into the revised contract value, so "what are we actually owed" has a single answer.
Budget lines per cost type sit against actual labour from timesheets, materials and supplier costs from purchase orders. Margin drift shows up during the project, not in the accounts three months later.
The Safety tab holds the site-specific information your engineers need: nearest A&E, emergency contacts, site hazards and the RAMS covering the works. The Handover tab assembles what the client gets at the end.
Document PDFs are template-driven. If your Order Acknowledgement needs your logo, your wording and an invoice tracker table, you build that once in the template editor.
Clients and principal contractors ask for the programme in their format. Send it without rebuilding it.
Export the full plan, with phases, durations, links and progress, as MS Project XML that opens in Microsoft Project and compatible tools. Export only: Field Ascend does not import MS Project files back in.
The task list also exports to an Excel workbook or plain CSV for QS teams who live in spreadsheets, and milestones export as an .ics file that drops into Outlook or Google Calendar.
Print the Gantt from a proper dialog: A3 or A4, portrait or landscape, whole plan or a chosen date range. The PDF opens in a new tab as its own preview, laid out for the paper size rather than a screen-dump of the browser.
This is project management software for contractors whose "projects" are installs, refurbishments and planned programmes running alongside reactive callouts and PPM. AC installs, electrical fit-outs, fire and security systems, M&E packages on construction sites. If your projects are two engineers for three weeks rather than two hundred people for three years, this is sized for you. The module is switched on per company in Project Settings, so service-only businesses never see it.
Public review volume is still early, so the figures sit in crawlable HTML and should be refreshed when the profiles change.
